About the project
2019 Emmys
I noticed “microblogs” or “carousel content” gaining popularity on instagram as a way to educate an audience on a particular topic. I suggested to the social team at Essence that we utilize this format for Emmy nominees. I worked with junior design Imani Nunez to come up with the layout and do research on the nominees I wanted to highlight. Our general process was highlighting what category a nominee was competing for, factoids about their life, and a quote from them. All while making sure to stay on brand look for Essence.
Billy Porter was nominated and won an Emmy for '“Lead Actor in a Drama Series” in Pose.
Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” was nominated for 16 Emmys. Jharrel Jerome won the Emmy for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.”
